The Blue Iris is a symbol of grace, balance, and natural beauty. Its elegant white and blue-violet blooms rise above sword-like leaves, swaying gently in the breeze. Each flower lasts only a few days, but new ones bloom continuously throughout the season, ensuring a show of serenity and charm.
Plant in full sun for maximum bloom, though it tolerates partial shade. Keep soil moist but well-drained, and water deeply during dry periods. Once established, it’s hardy and low-maintenance, thriving even in tough garden spots.
Deadhead spent blooms to prolong flowering. Divide clumps every two to three years to rejuvenate growth. Feed with a general-purpose fertilizer in early spring for vibrant color.
Excellent for borders, around ponds, or in mass plantings where its flowers can dance in the wind. Also thrives in decorative pots near entryways or patios.
Add organic matter before planting to enrich the soil. Set rhizomes just below the surface and space evenly for good airflow.
Trim old leaves after flowering to maintain a tidy look. Irrigate regularly during dry spells and refresh mulch annually.
